Poetry dates back to the days of old but still today it is as delightful and intriguing as it ever was. It is also arguably the purest form of writing. Poetry is a sense of the beautiful; characterized by a love of beauty and expressing this through words. Like art it is very hard to define because it is an expression. Poetry is a creative use of words which, like art, is intended to stir an emotion in the audience. Poetry is a form of writing that uses not only words but form, imagery, pattern of sounds and figurative language to share powerful messages and themes as well as stories. There are benefits to using poetry; it supports the development of literacy, supports the development of writing paradigms and addresses needs to raise the standards for writing; it’s an excellent venue to teach and reinforce discrete grammar and vocabulary skills. Poetry provides a focus for reading and writing, and helps students learn how to be concise, and it supports components defined in brain research such as the importance of searching for patterns, and is an acceptable way for students to express feelings, and emotions. It stimulates creativity and improves leadership skills, and stimulates strategic thinking. It raises emotional intelligence and makes a person more empathetic, and attributes to over all mental health. I love poetry it is my most favorite form of writing. I have been lucky enough to have been given the opportunity to be introduced to it at a young age. My first poetry book was by James Agee and my second, Robert Frost. Through the years I was also able to read such Author’s as, T.S. Elliot Emily Dickerson and Mark Twain; which built my imagination into the many fields of writing I enjoy and do today. This Beautiful Prose & Poetry Anthology is a gift back to all the colorful characters, authors alike that fed my soul, mind and heart, even today.
